My goal is to provide personalized, live art classes for individuals and groups. Classes are tailored to each students' interests, skill level, and needs. Classes are interactive and malleable.

Current offerings:

Art Discoveries for the Curious in Art

An ongoing, hopefully, never-ending course, where new ideas grow from each other

We will play with color, lines, textures, light, and shade, forms and space to learn about harmonious composition, color hues and relations, expressive drawing, and visual storytelling.

We will use different techniques and materials and will learn to create still lifes, portraits, landscapes, sketches, and abstract art.

We will engage in brainstorming to find creative solutions through experiments, discussions, games, and observing professional artists’ work. Suggestions, ideas, interests encouraged.

Sessions will be built on the group's interest and engagement. Everyone works at their own level.

Sign up for one session or 5 sessions at a time.

Art + Geometry (7-12 year olds)

Tetrahedron, Octahedron, Dodecahedron, Cuboid...No, these are not newly discovered dinosaurs--they're siblings of the Cube, Cone, Prism, Cylinder, and other members of the geometric forms family!

We will learn a paper unfolding method and will then rebuild these forms, using them as columns, blocks, arches, and roofs to create our own castles and cities. Finally, we will learn to draw our shapes using perspective.

We will have fun with paper creating unique patterns, optical illusions, and abstract compositions using rulers, triangles, and compasses.

There are endless projects but time is limited: we will brainstorm and share ideas on exploring possibilities, learning from examples and exercises. This will enable students to create more in their own time.

Visual geometry develops a deeper understanding of spatial relations, scale, symmetry, and 3D construction.

Materials needed:

  • construction or heavy paper

  • glue stick

  • clear scotch tape

  • scissors

  • pencils

  • color pencils

  • ruler, triangle, compass

  • graph paper

Fun with the Plasticine (not only for kids!)

Part 1 (3 class sessions)

Let's discover this fun material in a new way!

Did you know that you can "paint" with Plasticine? Plasticine paintings are between sculpture and painting. They are made on a flat base with raised up textured elements, or relief

With Plasticine, students will deepen their knowledge of lines, color hues, color mixtures, and texture. Plasticine will help teach students how to recreate three-dimensional spaces on two-dimensional surfaces.

Starting with simple exercises, we will create still lives, landscapes, and a painting of your choice.

Part 2 (3 class sessions)

We will take our skills to the next level by creating portraits and scenes with characters that can be used to tell a fun story or will turn into a short animation.

Prerequisite: Part 1 or knowledge and previous experience with Plasticine.

More Info!

Plasticine strengthens fine motor skills and helps develop concentration and patience. It provides stress relief, calms the mind, and can be a refuge from daily worries.

Ages: 7-100 years old.

Materials needed:

  • colored Plasticine (at least 6 basic colors-- available at every arts and crafts store, or online at Dick Blick

  • heavy paper or light cardboard (cut out from the cereal boxes works great-- Reuse and Recycle!)

  • pencil

  • rag or paper towel to clean hands

  • optional: cut of transparent acrylic in the size of the work you want to create.

Still Life for Kids

Through drawing, painting, collaging, and building simple Still Life sets, young artists will learn about representative drawing, proportions, color relations, balanced composition, and how to represent what they see in three dimensions onto a two-dimensional flat surface.

Together we will look at the history of the Still Life genre and study a variety of masterful examples. We will also discuss the purpose and thoughts behind each student's own Still Life.

Still Life for Teens and Adults

This class will cover basic color theory, color interaction, light, shadow, volume, proportions, and composition.

Together we will discuss the historical development, meaning, and use of the Still Life genre throughout the history of visual art. We will discover the purpose and significance of Still Life as a subject in visual art practice and training.

Demonstrations and exercises will teach students how to set up a successful Still Life based on an idea and purpose.

Sand Box

Program for 3-5-year-old artists with their caregivers.

Fun interactive activities for developing young hands motor skills, imagination, vocabulary, and concentration. This program helps create quality positive time together and develops bonding.

Sculpting, gluing, drawing, and painting alongside an adult helps children see details, think independently and develop an understanding and perception of self within the surrounding world.

Language teachers agree that creative activities in visual art are closely connected to speech development and learning language. While immersing in the process children will feel emotionally supported and confident while simultaneously engaging in conversation and creating art.

A good resource for bilingual children and children learning a second language.
