EDGEWOOD

ART STUDIO

Home: Welcome

In a time when tutorials and demos are widely available online, my art classes provide an opportunity for live, synchronous interaction and discussion aimed to develop each student's individual skills, tailored specifically to their own speeds, needs, and interests.

My name is Nellie Shevelkina. At Edgewood Art Studio, I provide private and group, individualized instruction in painting, drawing, collage, clay, and other media for all ages and skill levels.

As your instructor, I hope to nurture the curiosity of those who are just beginning to learn the basics of visual creativity, as well as support those who are passionate about strengthening their artistic abilities.

I am committed to helping students pursue a love for the arts by providing a unique and highly personalized method of learning. In my learning environment, I nurture, educate, and encourage artistic skills as one of the most effective paths to success.

My teaching philosophy and curriculum is based on the idea that children and adults need skills and techniques to successfully create whatever their imagination dictates. My private art studio provides the resources and successfully teaches students the skills they need to best and most effectively express themselves through visual art.

Children use their creative abilities as emotional and intellectual foundations in all areas of life. Adults use the skills developed by the visual arts to become better problem-solvers and mediators, learning to see their surroundings on a holistic scale.

I have over twenty years of experience teaching students visual basics and developing the artistic eye and hand through drawing, painting, and everything in-between. Please feel free to contact me to discuss how I can help you enter the world of visual arts; how I can help you hone your skills; how I can help you broaden your skills; and how my private instruction can be tailored to your needs and interests.

Nellie Shevelkina lives and works in New Haven, CT. She holds a B.A. in Fine Arts and Education from the Art College of Moldova.

She also studied Textile Design at the Textile Institute in Ivanovo, Russia.

Nellie teaches private lessons in her home studio and at Creative Arts Workshop (a non-profit community arts school in New Haven, CT).

Nellie Shevelkina has taught visual arts in public schools and community centers for more than 25 years.
